A practical look at the 1st Amendment

The 1st Amendment protects citizens from the government interfering with free speech and was not limited to the subject of the government. It was to encompass free expression, which included many subjects. Limiting the 1st amendment is supposed to have a high bar. The Supreme Court ruled the government has to show an overwhelming need to legislate restrictions. The usuals are violent over throw of the government or calls for destruction or harm to citizens. The expression of personal opinion is not to be legislated against. Much that gets called hate speech is mere opinion and therefore protected, until it passes into the aforementioned. We need to be very careful to stay on the constitutional side of the line because Rights, Liberties and Freedoms can (and do) tumble like Dominoes.
